Older than UAB, Health Services Administration celebrates 50th anniversary

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB Department of Health Services Administration 50th Anniversary Celebration – a weekend 50 years in the making – attracted more than 500 alumni, faculty, staff and friends to The Club on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

This legendary event, which celebrated the Department’s accomplishments of the past 50 years and plans for the next 50 years, welcomed presidents, CEOs, COOs, CFOs, directors and more from across the United States.

It was an unprecedented gathering of pioneers who are making a difference, improving health care delivery and inspiring future leaders.

More than 4,000 have graduated from the department, housed in the UAB School of Health Professions, since inception in 1965. That is 50 years of improving the healthcare industry, 50 years of leading in uncertain times, and 50 years of impacting future generations.

Only the Beginning

Thanks to the generous support of more than 50 sponsors at various levels, HSA was able to jumpstart the UAB Department of Health Services Administration 50th Anniversary Fund.

All proceeds from the event, after expenses, benefit the 50th Anniversary Fund and will be used to award scholarships to deserving students and create meaningful programming for the development of our students and alumni.

HSA 50 Unveiled

HSA 50 is the UAB Department of Health Services Administration’s blueprint to become the global leader in health services administration education and research.

The department leadership has identified three distinct ways to reach the goal:

Influence
HSA is establishing more scholarships to meet the demands of a transforming healthcare industry that needs leaders to grow. Every student with the potential to excel in healthcare leadership should be able to do so.

Invest
HSA is expanding the number of endowments to strengthen a talented faculty base that enriches the academic environment. The greatest institutions have the best minds, the brightest researchers and the most creative teachers.

Impact
HSA is increasing alumni opportunities to enhance collaboration and create meaningful results for everyone involved. Alumni are the greatest assets and through a dedicated support system we can improve graduates’ success while enhancing our education programs and scholarly work.

Over the past 50 years, the UAB Department of Health Services Administration has counted on alumni to help develop future leaders. They have come through in so many ways, such as mentoring students, hiring residents, guiding fellow alumni, lecturing in classrooms, volunteering on committees and providing generous financial support.

Over the next 50 years, their continued generosity will inspire future leaders to make a difference and lead in uncertain times. We look forward to seeing where our current and future alumni take health care between now and 2065.
