Press Release: Cerner & CAHME Announce Award Program for Excellence in Healthcare Management Systems Education

ROCKVILLE, Md., June 15, 2015 / CAHME -- Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, and the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) have announced a national award program to recognize CAHME-accredited higher education programs.

The Cerner-CAHME Award for Excellence in Healthcare Management Systems Education is the first national award program to acknowledge excellence in graduate health care management systems education with a focus on the development of managerial competency in the use of information for performance improvement. The award will provide recognition and scholarship funding to the top graduate program in health care management systems education. The application process will open in September 2015.

“Flexibility, innovation, technology and leadership are essential to the success of education programs that will produce these emerging leaders,” said John Glaser, Ph.D., senior vice president, Cerner. “Cerner is proud to support this national award that will serve to launch CAHME-accredited programs to greater excellence in preparing students for their future roles in health care leadership.”

Cerner and CAHME share the belief that health care systems management education is core to preparing the next generation of health care leaders who are skilled, competent and ready to lead, particularly as they will have significant influence on quality improvement through the use of information. Both organizations are committed to innovation, technology and leadership, which are essential elements in the design and development of educational programs.

“We are pleased to partner with Cerner and share the vision of developing future leaders and exemplifying the importance of health care information management as a critical competency for future health care leaders,” said Frank Coyne, chair, CAHME Board of Directors.

CAHME will release more details about the program on its website shortly.
