What Your Board is Working On:

Two weeks ago, the AUPHA Board met at the Undergraduate Workshop hosted by the University of Central Florida. The Workshop was a wonderful event filled with the sharing of knowledge. Please read Jerry’s blog for more information.  I want to share what your board is working on for you and the organization.

Diana Howard (Past-Chair: Rush University) is working on the History project, serves on the Executive Committee, and chairs the Leadership Development Committee (LDC). The LDC is an important committee tasked with identifying the next leaders of AUPHA.   Diane also serves on the Graduate Program Committee (GPC).

Mark Diana (Chair-Elect: Tulane University) is Chair of the Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC) and serves on the Executive Committee. The theme of the 2018 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia is Looking Back to Look Forward. The AMPC is busy planning the meeting details and securing keynote speakers.  Breaking news we want to share is the 2019 Annual Meeting will be held in New Orleans, LA. Look for more information in the October issue of the Exchange.

Leigh Cellucci (Treasurer: East Carolina University) shepherds the organizational finances. Leigh chairs the Finance Committee and serves on the Executive Committee.  Leigh reported at the last board meeting the AUPHA finances are good but we can always be looking for alternative revenue streams. AUPHA is a dues driven organization and we need to ensure members are receiving value for their investment.

Brenda Freshman (Secretary: California State University-Long Beach) serves on the Executive Committee, is working with Carol Molinari, Rupert Evans, and Nancy Borkowski on conducting a review to the AUPHA Bylaws. Brenda is Chairing a new committee called the Interprofessional Task Force.  The charge of this committee is to work with other organizations and professions to enhance the visibility, distinction, and significance of Healthcare Administration as a profession.

Nancy Borkowski (University of Alabama-Birmingham) is in her first year on the board. Nancy has a wealth of international experience, is chairing the Global Leadership Committee.  Nancy also serves on the Finance Committee.

Rosemary Caron (University of New Hampshire) is in her first year on the board. Rosemary has a long history of working on the Undergraduate Program Committee (UPC) and continues to serve on the UPC. Rosemary will also be assisting in the Strategic Plan Review.

Rupert Evans (Governors State University) serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and chairs the Corris Boyd Scholarship Committee. Rupert will also be working with other board members to examine the bylaws and increasing member value.

Tracy Farnsworth (Idaho State University) is in his first year on the board. Tracy will be serving on the Interprofessional Task Force, the LDC and the UPC.

Ray Grady (Practitioner Representative) serves as Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Ray has a long history of hosting fellows and interns from AUPHA member programs.

Brooke Hollis (Cornell University) serves as the Chair of the Bachrach Scholarship, AUPHA’s newest scholarship. Brooke serves on the Global  Leadership Committee and will be assisting in the Strategic Plan Review.

Michael Meacham (Medical University of South Carolina) is leading the History Project. Mike is leading the efforts in producing a book documenting the 70-year history of AUPHA.  The book will be unveiled at the 2018 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

Carol Molinari (University of Baltimore) co-chairs the Undergraduate Program Committee. This committee is responsible for all parts of the AUPHA certification and leads the development of the Undergraduate Workshop.

Jessie Tucker (Practitioner Representative) is in his first year on the board. Jesse will be co-chairing an assessment of the AUPHA Strategic Plan. The plan is in its third year and it is time to see how AUPHA is following the plan and if adjustments are needed.  Jesse also serves on the Interprofessional Task Force.

Cindy Watts (Virginia Commonwealth University) chairs the Graduate Program Committee (GPC). The GPC is the focal point for graduate-level issues affecting member programs.  The GPC also leads the development of the Graduate Program and Practitioners Workshop (formerly Leaders Conference) in conjunction with ACHE Annual Congress.

Suzanne Wood (University of Washington) is her first year on the board. Suzanne will be co-chairing an assessment of the AUPHA Strategic Plan and serves on the GPC.

Keith Benson (Chair: Winthrop University) has the privilege and honor of working with and guiding this talented board. My job is simple; to work with Jerry and the incredible AUPHA staff to increase member value.

That is what your board is working on this year. If you have questions or comments please contact me at bensonk@winthrop.edu or 803-323-4834. You can also contact any AUPA board member.

We are often asked how does one become an AUPHA Board Member. If you are a member from an academic program, the answer is to have an established record of adding value to AUPHA.  Volunteer and serve on faculty forums and committees. Be an active participant on the AUPHA network. The LDC examines the history of service of all potential board members.  If you are interested in volunteering please contact Jaime Stephens (jstephens@aupha.org) or myself.
