Dr. Bernard Kerr awarded the Faculty Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Bernard Kerr, Jr, Professor of Health Administration at Central Michigan University was awarded the Faculty Distinguished Service Award at the annual Faculty Excellence Exhibit ceremony on March 25, 2015. The award was presented to Dr. Kerr by the University’s Provost, Dr. Michael Gaelt.

Dr. Kerr has been with the University since the start of the Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) program 14 years ago and has been instrumental in several activities related to University, Professional and Community service. He received the 2007 Excellence in Teaching Award. During his tenure at CMU, Dr. Kerr has been instrumental in the self-studies related to the AUPHA certification of the undergraduate program, has served as chair of the Health Sciences Curriculum Committee and Personnel Committee, and on several University level committees. Professionally he is a Fellow in ACHE, has been awarded two service stars by ACHE for his work within the College, including being a Board Member of the local ACHE chapter and serving on the Regent’s Advisory Council. Dr. Kerr was involved in the development and implementation of the Graduate Certificate in International Health and in preparing the Health Administration Division’s proposal for a MHA degree program.

  

Charmaine Rochester, DHA selected for Outstanding Dissertation Award

Charmaine Rochester who graduated with her Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) degree in December 2014 was selected for the Outstanding Dissertation Award by the College of Graduate Studies at Central Michigan University. Dr. Rochester conducted research in conjunction with the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) that identified skills, knowledge and competencies that professionals wishing to advance in the field of healthcare finance ought to have and the statistical relationship these factors on perceived success. In addition the research compared the results with demands based on the implementation of the ACA. She used a Delphi Research model to collect the information from the HFMA Certification board as her expert panel and then used statistical models to conduct the analysis.




Dr. Steven Berkshire appointed to Academy Health Committee

Dr. Steven Berkshire, Professor and Director of the Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) Program and Division director for Health Administration at Central Michigan University was appointed by the Academy Health Board to the Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy (CAPP). CAPP advises the Board on public policy issues related to federal regulations and legislation related to health system research. Dr. Berkshire was also awarded the Service Star by the American College of Healthcare Executives at the annual meeting of the Great Lakes Chapter of ACHE.
