Bio

Professor Amber Stephenson, Associate Professor and Director of Healthcare Management Programs, joined the faculty of Clarkson University in 2015.  She teaches organizational behavior, organizational theory, and strategy courses for the Healthcare Management MBA program.  

Prior to joining Clarkson, Dr. Stephenson was the Director and Senior Research Associate at Temple University Harrisburg’s Nonprofit Evaluation Services and Training (NEST) program where she managed research, evaluation, and capacity building exercises for partner organizations like the United Way, National Park Service, PA Department of Education, PA Department of Aging, and the US-Japan Foundation. 

Earlier in her career, Dr. Stephenson worked in Pennsylvania Medicaid as the primary analyst for several state-wide health initiatives through the Department of Public Welfare’s Bureau of Policy Analysis and Planning. 

Dr. Stephenson’s research area includes organizational identification, or the propensity of an individual to define the self in terms of an organization, as well as how women leaders experience gender bias.

Her research has been featured in journals such as Health Care Management Review, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Healthcare Management, Medical Care Research and Review, American Journal of Managed Care, INQUIRY, Journal of Health Administration Education, Health Services Management Research, Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy, Human Resource Development Quarterly, Services Marketing Quarterly, International Journal of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Marketing, International Review on Public and Nonprofit Marketing, Journal of Health Organization and Management, and Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure and Events.
