Bio

Ty Borders, Ph.D. is a Professor and Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky Endowed Chair in Rural Health Policy at The University of Kentucky. He also serves as Director of the Rural and Underserved Health Research Center (funded through a $2.8 million per year award) and Co-Director of the UK Institute for Rural Health Policy. Dr. Borders earned Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Health Administration as well as a M.S. in Epidemiology from The University of Iowa and a B.A. in Psychology (with Honors) from The University of Kansas. His research focuses on the conduct and analysis of population-based studies to identify subgroups of persons at risk for poor health and problems obtaining health services, with an emphasis on rural populations. His research has been funded by AHRQ, RWJF, HRSA, NIAAA, and NIDA and has culminated in over 60 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Borders serves as Editor of The Journal of Rural Health, the world’s foremost academic publication devoted to rural health research. In 2007, he was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Epidemiology and in 2016 he was named a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky.
