Bio

The non-profit National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL) has a mission to improve health by strengthening healthcare leadership. We are pursuing this mission through a combination of research, identifying and sharing best practices, and recognizing excellent leaders and organizations. As of 2013, we also operate the U.S. Cooperative for International Patient Programs, an organizational membership program dedicated to improving world access to high-quality tertiary and quarternary care from leading U.S. providers. In my work with Rush University, I teach graduate-level courses in governance and leadership; organizational analysis and change; and healthcare entrepreneurship, as well as mentoring students on applied research projects. I also serve as associate chair of external relations and development, and in that capacity am helping the HSM department expand its portfolio of external activities and support. Specialties: Leadership assessment and development; management and leadership development systems; the role of governance in organizational outcomes; survey design and construction; workforce analysis; future scenario construction; globalization in health services. Interested in learning more about: experiential learning approaches to preparing leaders for the future; leadership in the context of adult development and spiritual development; and the future of the healthcare management profession.
