It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Hacer Özgen Narci as the new Chair of the Department of Health Management Systems (HMS) at the John G. Rangos, Sr. School of Health Sciences at Duquesne University effective August 1, 2018.

Dr. Narci brings to this position her excellent academic leadership experience, proven track record in teaching, scholarship and funded research in health administration, and a global vision for the Department. She is committed to bringing national and international recognition and reputation to the HMS undergraduate and graduate degree programs by pursuing national program accreditations and global academic partnerships.

Prior to joining Duquesne University, Dr. Narci served as Chair of the Department of Health Management in three private universities (Istinye University, Istanbul Medipol University, and Acibadem University) in Turkey following her retirement as a full professor from Hacettepe University in Turkey in 2012.

Dr. Narci’s current research interests include health systems efficiency analysis, strategic management, health financing, and burden of disease. Dr. Narci's publications appear in such internationally and nationally recognized journals as Health Affairs, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Social Science & Medicine, European Journal of Health Economics. Dr. Narci's other scholarly accomplishments include 12 funded research projects with World Bank and Scientific & Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), 2 books and 8 book chapters, 23 refereed proceeding publications and abstracts.

Dr. Narci earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Administration and Master of Science in Health Institutions Management from Hacettepe University in Turkey and a Ph.D. in Health Services Organization and Research from Virginia Commonwealth University.
