The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – New Orleans has named Dean G. Smith, Ph.D. the Richard A. Culbertson Professor of Health Policy and Systems Management. This named professorship is newly available with the gift from Susan M. Leary and Richard A. Culbertson and was created to recognize academic excellence in the area of health policy and systems management.

Dean Smith is Dean of the School of Public Health at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and Professor of Health Policy and Systems Management. Prior to joining the LSU Health Science Center, he was Professor of Health Management & Policy and Director of Executive Education and Life-Long Learning at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. He previously served as Chair of the Department of Health Management & Policy and Senior Associate Dean for Administration. He was also Visiting Professor in the executive programs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Colorado at Denver.

His service to AUPHA is hoghloghted by service as Board Chair in 2006 and present editor of the Journal of Health Administration Education.

He is the second member of the LSUHSC program in Health Policy and Systems Management to be named to an endowed Professorship. He joins Prof. Peggy Honore, who holds the Lt.Gen Russell Honore- AmeriHealth Caritas endowed Professorship.
