Robert J. Esterhay, MD, retired faculty in the Dept. of Health Management and Systems Sciences (HMSS) and founding HMSS chair, passed away on Jan. 25, 2023.

Erin Baughman, graduate student in the MS in Health Administration (MSHA) program, had the opportunity to study comparative health systems in Tanzania over winter break.

David Johnson, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Health Management and Systems Sciences, was featured on an episode of Faculty Feed, a podcast by UofL's Health Sciences Center Office of Faculty Development.

SPHIS alumna and adjunct assistant professor, Robin Weiss, PhD, MPH, CLC, LCCE, has been elected President-Elect of Doulas of North America (DONA) International, the world's first, largest, and leading doula certifying organization. Established in 1992, DONA is the only non-profit, member-led, volunteer-driven doula organization delivering evidence-based training, education, and certification worldwide. Dr. Weiss is a nationally recognized childbirth and postpartum educator, certified doula, doula trainer, and lactation counselor. She has been teaching at SPHIS for several years as part of the Dept. of Health Management and Systems Sciences. Dr. Weiss' courses include Practice of Public Health (PHPH 420), Public Health in the United States (PHPH 523), and Human Resource Management in the Public Health Sector (PHMS 630). She is currently creating a new class, PHMS 520 Foundations of Public Health in Health Management, for MSHA students. Dr. Weiss has extensive experience writing, editing, and publishing, and is author of numerous books and guides including The Complete Illustrated Pregnancy Companion, The Better Way to Breastfeed Your Baby, and 150 Tips and Tricks for New Moms.
