Bio

My name is Asha and I am from Trinidad and Tobago. Currently I am pursuing a PhD in Health Administration, but all of my career has been immersed in the world of sports and sports medicine as an athletic trainer.

Born in the beautiful twin-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, I playfully refer to myself as a Trini woman. I studied both my bachelor's and master's in Troy, AL where I learnt the true meaning of "culture shock," and the statement, "be careful what you ask for." Having been raised on a small Caribbean island, I felt ready to see experience something new and different, and I definitely got that at Troy. Although it was a challenging period, I developed a lot of valuable character traits, and expanded on some already existing ones, particularly with reference to having an acceptance for different cultures, values, and perspectives.

I returned to Trinidad, created a family and now I am a mother to two wonderful children who are teenagers now. Already I feel the nostalgia of the parenting years, as exhausting as they always were, but I am also excited by the future that awaits as I near the end of my PhD and entertain new adventures as a person and as a professional, the role of motherhood evolving as my children get older and grow into their own.

I have worked with many sports at many levels, but the teams that stand out to me played volleyball, rugby, and cricket. I hope to continue my career into leadership roles that impact the lives of youngsters keen to change their lives through their athletic talents. Finding pathways for visibility and development is an underlying passion I have while I find lucrative options to sustain a happy and peaceful lifestyle.
