Professor John Kraemer is a lawyer and faculty member in the Department of Health Systems Administration at the School of Nursing & Health Studies at Georgetown University who published an online opinion piece recently in the journal Science about the federal government’s 2011 request to two scientific journals to redact parts of scientific information it deemed a biosecurity threat. Kraemer's article, written with a professor at Georgetown University Law Center, notes that while the request by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “reveals a troubled relationship between security and science,” it does not actually violate the First Amendment.
