AUPHA is teaming up with AcademyHealth to offer students the opportunity to join or form an AcademyHealth student chapter at your university.  Graduate and undergraduate students from all disciplines with an interest in health services research, health policy, and management are welcome.

Student chapters offer many great benefits:

  • Gain leadership experience as a chapter officer
  • Network and share questions and ideas through our online community
  • Add to your classroom education with our monthly journal club discussions
  • Expand your knowledge with free use of any AcademyHealth webinar when used as a chapter event
  • Nominate students who can serve on AcademyHealth conference abstract review committees, and co-lead conference sessions
  • Receive recognition of your chapter on our website and in our materials
  • Receive recognition awards for Chapter of the Year, and Student Chapter Faculty Advisor of the Year

Georgetown University has recently established a new student chapter, and one of its first activities capitalized on interest in the recent Supreme Court oral arguments about the Constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.  A panel of lawyers, health policy and government experts, and Congressional staff members led a lively discussion that drew a crowd from around the university.  According to the chapter’s faculty advisor, Professor Michael Stoto, the chapter has been a great way to give students, particularly undergraduates in the Health Care Management and Policy major, exposure to topical health policy issues and to see how the material they have been studying relates to current national issues.  The chapter has also provided an opportunity to develop students’ leadership skills and experience and to raise the profile of our program on the campus.

Joining one of AcademyHealth’s 30 existing student chapters or forming a new chapter is easy to do!  Contact Eric Kokuma at 202-292-6755 or eric.kokuma@academyhealth.org, or visit our website at www.academyhealth.org/students.
