1. Carole Roan Gresenz, PhD, has joined Georgetown University’s Department of  Health Systems Administration as the inaugural holder of the Bette Jacobs  Endowed Professorship. Gresenz comes to NHS with nearly 20 years of  experience at  the RAND Corporation, where she most recently served as senior  economist and director of the Health Economics, Finance, and  Organization  program within RAND Health. Her research interests include health disparities,  health care organizations, and finance – among others.

2. New supplemental funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  will extend the work of a project that has been investigating public health  emergency preparedness (PHEP) systems. Co-principal investigator Michael  Stoto, PhD, is a professor of health systems administration at Georgetown  University.

With the new supplemental award, Stoto will look at introducing a peer  assessment component into this type of public health emergency response  activity.  The initiative will develop a peer assessment prototype, pilot test it  using past public health emergencies, and test the model in actual practice  settings.

3. Health Systems Administration Assistant Professor John D. Kraemer, JD, MPH,  had a commentary titled “The Power to Block the Affordable Care Act: What  are the Limits?” published in the October 29, 2012, Online First segment of The Journal of the  American Medical Association.
