1. Carole Roan Gresenz, PhD, has joined Georgetown University’s Department of Health Systems Administration as the inaugural holder of the Bette Jacobs Endowed Professorship. Gresenz comes to NHS with nearly 20 years of experience at the RAND Corporation, where she most recently served as senior economist and director of the Health Economics, Finance, and Organization program within RAND Health. Her research interests include health disparities, health care organizations, and finance – among others.
2. New supplemental funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will extend the work of a project that has been investigating public health emergency preparedness (PHEP) systems. Co-principal investigator Michael Stoto, PhD, is a professor of health systems administration at Georgetown University.
With the new supplemental award, Stoto will look at introducing a peer assessment component into this type of public health emergency response activity. The initiative will develop a peer assessment prototype, pilot test it using past public health emergencies, and test the model in actual practice settings.
3. Health Systems Administration Assistant Professor John D. Kraemer, JD, MPH, had a commentary titled “The Power to Block the Affordable Care Act: What are the Limits?” published in the October 29, 2012, Online First segment of The Journal of the American Medical Association.
