Case Competition
This fall, three graduate students in the Master of Health Services Administration program at University of Detroit Mercy were selected to compete in the annual National Association of Health Services Executives’ Everett V. Fox Case Competition in Texas. The case study was sent to the students in September and they worked diligently to develop a sound and comprehensive plan to address the many healthcare delivery and financial issues presented in the study. The competition was held in October with 20 student teams from around the country competing for top honors. This is the first team from the University of Detroit Mercy to compete and they were thrilled with the experience. The team received financial support from the University and a donation from the local chapter of ACHE, the Midwest Healthcare Executives Group and Associates.

Selected for Midwest Healthcare Executives Group and Associates Board
Chair and Associate Professor of the Health Services Administration program, Mary O’Shaughnessey, DHA, MS, MHSA, was selected to Chair the Council on Student Activities Council for the local chapter of ACHE. The first event of the council is to coordinate the annual job shadow program which was initially developed in 2003 and implemented in 2004. The program involves more than 35 healthcare executives who volunteer to have a graduate student from one of the three Higher Education Network universities shadow him/her for a day. Evaluations from students and executives report that the experience has been very worthwhile and led to an increased understanding of the demands on healthcare executives.
