Ty Borders, Ph.D. joined the UK Department of Health Services Management as Professor and Chair in November 2012. Dr. Borders earned Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Health Administration as well as a M.S. in Epidemiology from The University of Iowa and a B.A. in Psychology (with Honors) from The University of Kansas. His research focuses on the conduct and analysis of population-based studies to investigate consumers’ perceptions of their health care access and quality, with an emphasis on rural populations. His research has been funded by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and National Institutes of Health and has culminated in over 50 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Borders also serves as Editor of The Journal of Rural Health, the official scholarly publication of the National Rural Health Association. Prior to joining the University of Kentucky, he was Professor of Health Policy and Management at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. In 2007, Dr. Borders was inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Epidemiology.
In the fall of 2011, the Executive Seminar Series was established to enrich the MHA curriculum by providing opportunities for students to learn from and interact with healthcare leaders. Speakers have included Dr. Thomas Dolan, President and CEO of the American College of Healthcare Executives; Quint Studer, Founder of the Studer Group; David Lemoine, President and CEO of the Catholic Healthcare Audit Network, and Mr. John King who served as CEO of three health systems and a past Chairman of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees.
The Executive Seminar Series continued this past November with Mr. James Skogsbergh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Advocate Health Care in Oak Brook, Illinois. Mr. Skogsbergh shared insights on “Health System Leadership in a Turbulent Environment: Challenges and Opportunities” to MHA students, faculty, and healthcare administrators.
