NSF Approves UAB Center for Health Organization Transformation
The UAB Department of Health Services Administration has been approved by the National Science Foundation as an official site for a Center for Health Organization Transformation. UAB was one of only two universities selected for 2016 and is one of only six CHOT University Sites in the United States.
New Program Director
We are pleased to announce that Sue Feldman, RN, MEd, PhD, joined the UAB Department of Health Services Administration on August 1 as the Program Director for our Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI) Program. Additionally, she holds a joint appointment in the UAB School of Medicine in the Informatics Institute. Dr. Feldman is a leading health informatics researcher who worked at Pepperdine University immediately prior to UAB. Dr. Feldman currently chairs the accreditation review team for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and conducts research related to health information systems.
Awards and Recognition
Dr. Robert Weech-Maldonado¸ Professor and L.R. (Rush) Jordan Endowed Chair, recently received the 2016 Myron D. Fottler Exceptional Service Award from the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division. In addition, Dr. Shivani Gupta, a 2015 doctoral graduate, was the recipient of the HCMD Best Paper Based on a Dissertation Award. Dr. Amy Landry is the Chair Elect of the HCMD. Drs. Larry Hearld and Nate Carroll were acknowledged as Outstanding Reviewers at the meeting. Also, several members of the faculty were recognized as past Division Chairs including Dr. Bob Hernandez, Dr. Steve O’Connor, Dr. Christy Lemak, and Dr. Robert Weech-Maldonado.
