Giving Back, Moving Forward: How You Can Support AUPHA’s Mission

One question I’m hearing more and more—from long-standing members, new faculty, and program directors and chairs alike—is: How can I give back to AUPHA?
It’s an encouraging question, and an important one. Encouraging, because it reflects the commitment and community that define our Academy. Important, because AUPHA’s strength has always come from the engagement and generosity of its members. As we work together to advance excellence in healthcare management education, there are many ways—large and small—to contribute.

Volunteer leadership is the lifeblood of AUPHA. From standing committees and task forces to short-term work groups, your time and expertise help shape the direction of our work. Whether your interests center on learning content and competencies, teaching and assessment methods, inclusion and belonging, or practitioner engagement, there’s a place for your voice and leadership.

You can also contribute through content and events. Submitting proposals for the AUPHA Annual Meeting or the Academic Forum at HIMSS is a powerful way to share ideas and innovations. And submissions to the Journal of Health Administration Education (JHAE) help advance scholarship and amplify the perspectives of our community.

Even beyond formal roles, simply sharing the value of AUPHA membership with colleagues can have a meaningful impact. Word of mouth remains one of our strongest tools for growing the Academy and broadening our reach.

Finally, for those in a position to do so, financial support makes a lasting difference. Contributions to AUPHA’s scholarship, prize, and award funds—fully tax-deductible—directly support the faculty, academic leaders, and students shaping the future of our field.

However you choose to give back, know that your involvement strengthens not only AUPHA, but the entire field of healthcare management education. Your engagement builds momentum, drives innovation, and ensures we continue to lead with integrity and impact.

On behalf of the Board and staff, thank you for your commitment—and for asking the question. Let’s keep answering it, together.

Warmly,
Dan
