Early Careerist Award 2013
On October 25th at the annual HMI Fall Institute in Columbia, Missouri, Shaun Custard (MHA 2004) was presented with the HMI Alumni Association's Early Careerist Award for 2013. Shaun is hard working, well connected, and always willing to help out a colleague or student. He has volunteered countless hours to help give back to the students and serve on the alumni board. Shaun has made so many contributions people sometimes forget he is an early careerist….instead he seems like a seasoned veteran. Shaun is a dual degree MHA/MBA graduate of 2004. Since graduation he has worked at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as an administrative fellow, followed by full employment as an inpatient business manager. Shaun later moved across town to the Baylor
College of Medicine as the Director of Business Operations. Today, he is currently employed as the Practice Administrator for CV Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital. He is board certified in healthcare administration holding the Fellow credential with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
University of Kansas Regional Case Competition
Our MHA program is pleased to announce the students who took second place at the University of Kansas Regional Case Competition on November 1. Reena Joseph, Emily Mace, David Deroode, and Umar Hussain -- competed against seven other teams representing University of Iowa, University of Oklahoma, and University of Kansas. The competition centered around a case developed at St. Luke's Health System. Teams faced two elimination rounds, with University of Missouri qualifying in their first and placing in their second.
