Video games are an emerging modality for higher education learning. VCU Health Administration Professor Jonathan DeShazo has developed a social media based role-playing game as an adjunct to our Introduction to Health Care Information Technology Management course. His goal was to produce a video game learning modality that complements the classroom experience and increases student engagement with course concepts outside of the conventional class time. The HITGa.me game includes educational and entertaining mechanics and was piloted by 29 second-year students in our Master of Health Administration program who were given the opportunity to play the game over the course of the semester. You can read more about Dr. DeShazo’s game development at the Journal of Health Administration Education or download the article from the AUPHA Network.
