Welcomes New Faculty Member

Christopher J. King, PhD, MHSc, FACHE, recently joined the Department of Health Systems Administration as the Director of Experiential Learning and Professional Development and Associate Director of the Master’s Program in Health Systems Administration. Prior to joining the department, King served as the first Assistant Vice President of Community Health for MedStar Health, where he planned, launched and managed a new corporate function designed to apply more rigor and evidence in community health planning, implementation and evaluation. As a senior fellow of the Health Research & Educational Trust, King provides intellectual contributions to inform national efforts to transform health care through research and education. His recent investigations on screening and barriers to care among cancer survivors by race and ethnicity were published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and the American Journal of Medical Quality. King has a Doctor of Philosophy in health services administration with a focus on vulnerable and underserved populations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.


Anderko to Lead CDC-Funded Initiative

Laura Anderko, PhD, RN, the Robert and Kathleen Scanlon Chair in Values Based Health Care at Georgetown’s School of Nursing and Health Studies (NHS), received a five-year award totaling more than $700,000, to lead a CDC-funded center at NHS that will focus on children and environmental health. Anderko will direct the mid-Atlantic Center for Children’s Health and the Environment, a regional pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit that will cover the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Horak Receives CPHQ Designation

Bernie Horak, PHd, FACHE, director of the Master’s Program in Health Systems Administration, received the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) after passing the certification exam in January 2015.
