Hannah Johnson ‘15, Kent “K.C." Nate ‘15 and Elliott Wortham ‘15 competed against 38 U.S. and Canadian teams to place third in the UAB Health Administration Case Competition in Birmingham, Ala. The team analyzed a case surrounding the development of a comprehensive respiratory center for University of Colorado Health. Their recommendations included a plan to retain thoracic inpatient volume, build outpatient respiratory services, and develop an operational and financial plan.

Nils Johnson ‘16 is among a team of UMN students who placed first in the 2015 U of M Global Health Case Competition, Jan. 31. Fourteen teams competed to propose a bid to the International Olympic Committee highlighting their cities’ ability to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.  Essential to each team's proposal was the incorporation of public health intervention(s) that would improve the health of the host city's and/or country's population.

Johnson's team advanced to and took first place at Emory University's International 2015 Virtual Global Case Competition, March 27. The team had six days to prepare and videotape their plan to reduce gun violence in Honduras.

Jean Abraham, associate professor, helped launch the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Workplace Health Research Network (WHRN) in Chapel Hill, N.C., Feb. 5-6.  Abraham is part of a network of six research universities across the country that conducted health research focused on the work environment, where the majority of Americans spend most of their time. The WHRN will focus on ways to promote evidenced-based health-related programs and services to employed adults.  Abraham and John Nyman are principal investigators representing the University of Minnesota. Read more about the network >
