On the futility of critical management studies,

Steve, these two papers strike me as an exploration of futility. They don't clarify much, and they contribute even less to general well-being. As compared to any Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award application (they are on line.) or Kovner's various excursions under the label of evidence-based management, they just don't pay off. There's no "there" there. It's a bunch of people pleasuring themselves with words.

They remind me of a famous speech by Bob Sigmond, an inspiring leader in the generation before ours, who happens to still be around and active. (May he continue forever!)

What Bob actually said was about "master planning," a 70s buzzword. "Master planning is like masturbating. You sit in the corner and do it by yourself, and it doesn't produce anything."
