Student Opportunity: Study Health Services Management in Puebla, Mexico this Summer!

By Kristi Donovan, MS, CAE posted 03-11-2011 13:10

Managing Health Service Organizations (3 credits, taught in English by Professor Windsor Sherrill, Clemson University) will be taught in Puebla, Mexico through the USAC program (University Study Abroad Consortium), June 20-July 20.   USAC courses are easily transferred for credit.

This course is ideal for students interested in management roles and for students planning healthcare careers.  If desired, the class can be complemented with an internship at a local hospital.  Graduate schools and employers are looking for students with this type of experience!

The course will provide an introduction to the systems of management in healthcare and discuss management challenges in health service delivery.  The class will give students an opportunity to learn about health care systems and visit health care organizations in the host city.  We will visit hospitals and clinics as well as learn about indigenous health care practices.   Study abroad will provide the opportunity to compare US and international health care systems.

The course will be taught in a seminar format with opportunity for discussion and interaction between students.  Rather than spending all of sessions in a classroom, we will spend much of our time visiting health care organizations and seeing health care management in practice.

Puebla Program Highlights:

• Join fascinating archaeology/history based field trips in Mexico.  Puebla is well known for study abroad programs.

• Stay in a home or dormitory - your choice – meet Study Abroad students from all over the world!
