Agenda for AUPHA Academic Forum at HIMSS 2013 Now Available

The 8th Annual AUPHA Academic Forum will he held in conjunction with HIMSS 2013 in New Orleans on Sunday March 3.  From the largest applicant pool in the eight year history of the Academic Forum, peer reviewers have selected six papers for presentation.  In addition, there will be an update on the AUPHA health information technology curriculum project.  

Chair and moderator Brian Malec, PhD, Professor of Health Administration, California State University, Northridge will introduce the program and welcome participants, followed by remarks from Lydia Middleton, MBA, CAE, President and CEO of AUPHA.

The following papers will be presented:

“Levels of Adoption of Electronic Health Records and Patient Safety” by Jay J. Shen, PhD, Professor   & Christopher Cochran, PhD, Associate Professor University of Nevada Las Vegas

“Asthma Infrastructure Research (AIR)” by Mark Gaynor, PhD, Associate Professor of Health Management & Policy. St. Louis University, School of Public Health

“Medical Electronic Documentation Accuracy through Health Informatics” by Gabriela Mustata Wilson, MS, PhD and Gina L. Schaar, RN, DNP, University of Southern Indiana

“Automated Follow-up of Patients in Ambulatory Care: Physician and Patient Views” by Eta S. Berner, EdD (et al.) University of Alabama Birmingham 

“Who Reads It?  Clinicians Use of Electronic Documentation in Acute Care Setting” by Kendall H. Cortelyou-Ward, PhD and Alice Noblin, PhD, RHIA, University of Central Florida

“Achieving Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records in Primary Care” by Martha Cornwell Riddell, DrPH, MPH, and Andrew Johnson, PhD, University of Kentucky College of Public Health 

The Forum will conclude with a presentation on the status of the HIMSTA Curriculum Project by project leader and coordinator, Margaret Schulte, DBA.
