Faculty Opportunities: Call for Chapter Contributors

By Lacey Meckley, CAE posted 02-03-2011 09:42

Dear Health Administration Colleagues:

We are Professors in the Health Administration program at California State University, Northridge. Both of us have been health care executives prior to a change in careers in academia. Even though we teach full time we both serve our community as members of hospital governing boards and on various national and local advisory committees.

We have been frustrated in finding a book geared towards the undergraduate student in health administration which focuses on leadership in today’s changing healthcare environment.  We believe this book will be unique since each chapter will be written jointly by an academic and a practitioner.  With this plan in mind, we hope to provide the content needed for a useful tool in teaching as well at to capture the current essence of the healthcare administrator’s world.

We are seeking authors for certain chapters. It is our hope that anyone interested in this would team up with a person who represents the other partner needed (whether you are identified as an academic or a practitioner) and pitch what you are interested in writing. There is no compensation except for the recognition you will receive as an author and hopefully some of you will be able to use your scholarly addition to help you in your own personal tenure and promotion process. We hope to have the work completed by the end of Summer 2011.

If you have an interest in writing one of the chapters, please contact me at Lrubino@earthlink.net before February 28, 2011.  We will also be looking to the co-authors of each chapter to prepare supplementary teaching resources for each chapter.  If you have any questions please feel free to call or write either one of us. Thank you.

Louis,
Greetings! My colleague and I, Dr Jerry Ledlow, saw a similar gap in the Health Profession’s Leadership literature back in 2007. It was about that time we thought we would write a book that would include the classics of leadership theory, as well as, the competencies necessary to succeed as an executive in today’s healthcare environment. The book was published in the early fall of 2010. So far it has been adopted by some 40 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. You can view the table of contents at the link, below if you are interested. I can also coordinate to have a desk reference sent to you at your request.
