AUPHA to Develop First Centralized Application Service for Individuals Applying to Healthcare Administration and Management Programs

ARLINGTON, Va., October 20, 2010 – The Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) is pleased to announce the development of the first national Centralized Application Service (CAS) designed for students applying to graduate programs in health administration, healthcare management and health policy.  The application service, called HAMPCAS (Healthcare Administration, Management & Policy Centralized Application Service), will enable applicants to apply to multiple colleges and schools through a single web-based application.

“AUPHA has been exploring the idea of launching a centralized application service for the health administration programs for some months now,” said AUPHA President and CEO, Lydia Middleton. “Many of our fellow health professions have already launched highly successful centralized application services, so we have been slow to adopt. But in waiting for the right time we can take advantage of all of the lessons learned by our predecessors.”

Through HAMPCAS, AUPHA  will be able to provide applicants with a convenient way to apply to multiple member programs through one standardized application. The system will provide one portal for admissions offices to obtain applications, applicant data, and reports/analysis; transcript verification; and customer support, thereby reducing administrative burden on admissions staff.

“HAMPCAS will provide the field with rich data that currently is unavailable—data that can help us track the number and quality of applicants to our programs and help us plan for future needs of our healthcare system,” said Daniel Gentry, PhD of the Rush University Department of Health Systems Management, and chair of the HAMPCAS advisory group.

In addition to the benefits to students and the field, participating admissions offices will also be able to do the following:

  • Access all documents in a paperless/PDF format;
  • Export applicant data and HAMPCAS reports in the format that school’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System requires;
  • Manage correspondence with applicants by logging correspondence and entering notes directly to an applicant’s record;
  • Customize data or reports;
  • Access data online, 24-7;
  • Assign applicants to a specific reviewer or admissions officer; and
  • Customize applicant queries, such as creating groups of applicants with similar characteristics for analysis, processing, and reporting

Participation in HAMPCAS will be voluntary and free to AUPHA graduate member programs. The service is scheduled to launch in September 2011.
