The women of the Association of Future Healthcare Leaders and the Medical Group Management Association are developing a Women’s Network Luncheon series with three presentations for the 2011-12 academic year. Two of the presentations will feature a successful woman executive speaking about the challenges of leadership, tips for success, and professional society engagement. The third presentation will feature a panel of women executives from local healthcare organizations. Other speakers will address the students during the year on issues of patient safety, recruiting, consulting, long term care leadership, and operations leadership. For example, ACHE Regent, Ed Tucker, FACHE, will visit with the students in September 2011. Likewise, the students will have a chance to participate in an ACHE seminar in December 2011: “Creating and Managing Error Free Management Systems,” led by Diane Kelly, RN, DrPH.

Four MHA students received the Foster G. McGaw scholarship. The scholarship is provided by AUPHA to support the education of outstanding health management students. Congratulations to Ms. Emily Allen, Ms. Courtney Gordon, Ms. Julianna Parker, and Mr. Kyle Toomey.

In June, eight second-year MHA students received certifications from the American Society for Quality. Ms. Keli Dean, Ms. Beth Elder, Ms. Courtney Gordon, Ms. Kaley Meadows, Ms. Rachel McKown, Mr. Micah Granger, and Mr. Kyle Toomey earned their Quality Improvement Associate Certification while Mr. Jason Schweitzer earned his Quality Process Analyst Certification. These certifications represent an important external validation of their knowledge of quality and process improvement.
