Dr. David Lawrence, retired CEO and Chairman of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals and graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, shared insights and opportunities regarding the future of health care with MHA students on October 21, 2011.  During an informal discussion with the students, Dr. Lawrence spoke to the need for innovation in changing the business of healthcare while maintaining empathy with patients during the delivery of health care.  Dr. Lawrence was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the UK College of Public Health later that day.

The Executive Seminar Series is a new educational offering for MHA students at the University of Kentucky.  Beginning in September with a session featuring a panel of both administrators who select administrative fellows and successful administrative fellowship applicants, the series continued in October with an in-depth discussion of accountable care organizations led by the associate vice president for marketing  and external affairs for UK HealthCare .  Accreditation is the topic of the November session focusing  on hospital accreditation and accreditation of the MHA program. In December, Quint Studer is the featured speaker sharing with the students on “Straight A Leadership.”   Guest speakers in the Spring Semester will include Thomas Dolan, President and CEO of the ACHE, and David LeMoine, President and CEO of the Catholic Healthcare Audit Network.
