EDUARDO J. SIMOES, MD, JOINS UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI PROGRAM AS CHAIR
Eduardo J. Simoes, MD, MSc, DLSHTM, MPH, arrived at the University of Missouri School of Medicine on September 26, 2011, to assume the position of Chair of the Department of Health Management and Informatics and as the Alumni Distinguished Professor. From 2003 to 2011, he was the Director of the Prevention Research Centers Program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He has been an Adjunct Professor at Saint Louis University School of Public Health since 2003, where he was also an Assistant Professor in 1995-2003. From 1995 to 2000, he was a medical epidemiologist in the Missouri Department of Health; then became Missouri State Epidemiologist and Chief of the Office of Epidemiology in 2000-2003. Dr. Simoes was an associate researcher with Emory University School of Medicine (1993-1995), visiting associate with CDC (1991-1993), medical officer with Secretary of Health of Recife, Brazil (1983-1989) and a general practitioner in Recife, Brazil (1981-1989). He holds board certification in general practice with the Regional Medical Council of the State of Pernambuco (Brazil) and Federal Medical Council of Brazil. Dr. Simoes is a consultant with such organizations as the World Bank, CDC, and Federal University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). He has published over 80 peer reviewed publications, four book chapters, over 30 official reports in public health and medicine, and made over 100 presentations at health-related conferences. He is a reviewer for 12 peer-reviewed journals and Associate Editor of International Scholarly Research Network (Online Peer Reviewed Journal). He has been awarded nominations for scientific work with CDC-ATDSDR Charles C. Shepard Science Award (2) and the NIOSH Alice Hamilton Awards (1).
