2014 Richard J. Stull Essay Competition: Frank H. Sortino
The University of Florida is proud to congratulate Frank H. Sortino for winning second place in the 2014 Richard J. Stull Essay competition! This competition is sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives and was designed to encourage and inspire future healthcare management leaders to detect and illustrate the issues of importance affecting the healthcare industry. Frank’s inspiration for his essay came from his internship preceptor, Scott Sumner, where he was able to learn more about communication behaviors in healthcare organizations and draw from some of the lessons from the Mann Gulch fire. He states, “There are lessons to be learned from the Mann Gulch disaster by examining the communication behaviors of the smokejumpers and how we could use their experience to think about communication behaviors in HCOs”. The winners were formally announced at the awards ceremony at the Congress on Healthcare Leadership. Congratulations Frank!
