UW Team Wins First Place at Clarion Competition
April 2014, two concurrent MHA/MD students, Eric Sid (left) and Juan Magana (right) and their teammates went to the University of Minnesota for the national quality improvement (Clarion) competition where they took first place. This was only the second time that a UW team has competed in the Clarion competition, and we are very proud of these students for this outstanding achievement!
The student team met with and interviewed health professionals from UW Medicine’s Regional Heart Center that manages advanced heart failure patients, carefully reviewed the literature on heart failure, studied Kaiser Permanente’s approach to chronic disease management in patients who are screened to be” high utilizers” of the health system, and read about the issues associated with “hot spotting.” The recommendations they made for this case were outstanding and earned the students a check for $7,500 to be split among the team.
We are immensely proud of our concurrent MHA/MD students and their collaboration with their teammates from Pharmacy and Public Health programs.
