Georgetown Students Win
National NAHSE Case Competition
A team of graduate
students from the School of Nursing & Health Studies earned first place in the
NAHSE case study competition. The team,
which was led by Dr. Bernie Horak, Program Director, and included Deanna
Jenkins (G’12), Karen Jose (G’11), and Philip Morris (G’11) – all pursuing a
master’s degree in health systems administration – were declared victors Friday
night at the annual meeting of the National Association of Health Services
Executives in Memphis, Tenn. For more

AcademyHealth’s EDM Forum
on CER
Professor Michael Stoto
is serving as a consultant to AcademyHealth’s newly established Electronic Data
Methods (EDM) Forum for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER). The EDM Forum was established by the Agency
for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to advance methods for collecting
and analyzing prospective data from electronic clinical data bases for
CER. The Forum will collaborate with
researchers funded by AHRQ through the Prospective Outcome Systems using
Patient-specific Electronic data to Compare Tests and therapies (PROSPECT) and
other programs.
John P. McDaniel
Scholarship
Nancy Velasco, a 1st year
graduate student won the John P. McDaniel Scholarship for Diverse Leadership in
Healthcare Management. This award, which was made possible by the contribution
of John McDaniel, former CEO of the Washington Hospital Center and MedStar
Health is designed to offset educational costs for a minority student with high
leadership potential.
