The Value of Engagement

AUPHA recently distributed a Call for Volunteers seeking individuals willing to serve on our various task forces and committees. The response from our membership was overwhelming, with more than 70 people offering up their time and talents to support AUPHA.

The AUPHA Nominating Committee met last week to make Committee appointments. Those appointments were subsequently approved by the Board. Individuals who volunteered will be notified in the coming weeks of their appointment.

In making appointments, we sought whenever possible to give individuals their first or second choice of committee. This was not always possible given the high level of response and the unique competencies that are desired for service on the various committees. However, I'm pleased to report that everyone who wanted to serve in a volunteer role with AUPHA will be able to do so this coming year.

It is very gratifying for the Board and staff of AUPHA to see such a high level of interest in participation among our membership. The majority of our new volunteers are faculty or practitioners that have not previously served the Association. The opportunity to engage these new members in the important work we are doing serves both the members and AUPHA.

If you are interested in playing a role in the Association, opportunities still exist. We are always looking for members of the Journal of Health Administration Education Review Panel. This panel represents the pool of reviewers from which the JHAE editors solicit reviews for manuscripts submitted to the Journal. All that is required to join the panel is to register at www.jhae.org. Please take care in identifying your areas of interest as these are used to match reviewers with manuscripts.

Another opportunity is through service on the Annual Meeting Planning Committee for 2012. Planning will begin at the 2011 meeting so you must be present to participate. If you have interest in serving on this committee, please contact me directly. There are a limited number of spaces available on this committee.

To all of our new, incoming volunteers, I want to say thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. We will do our best to make your experience meaningful and of value to you. To those of you who have served this year, I say thank you for your time and talents. AUPHA could not possibly do all that we do without your significant contribution.
