AUPHA Member Satisfaction Survey Results

By Lydia S. Middleton, MBA, CAE posted 08-03-2011 16:34

As many of you know, in May AUPHA sent out a member satisfaction survey instrument to all individual members and program member faculty to seek your input on what we're doing well, what we're not doing so well, what you'd like to see us do more of, and what you already find of value. I promised at the Annual Meeting to share the results of that survey back with you in this Exchange.

I struggled with the most efficient way to share this information, and decided that it's a story best told in pictures. To that end, I've created a file that depicts the most relevant data that came out of the survey. There were more questions and data than are included here, but my assessment was that it wouldn't add value to your understanding of what we'll be acting on as well as what's included in the file I have created. If anyone wants more detail, please feel free to give me a call. I can slice and dice the data any way you'd like to see it.

First, some statistics:

Survey Distribution: 1,030

Total Response: 114

Individual Respondents: 13

Program Dir. Respondents:  55

Of the respondents, 39% were from CAHME accredited programs, 25% were from AUPHA Certified Programs, and 26% were from Associate and Associate Candidate programs.

The quantitative results of the survey are available HERE.

As you will see, AUPHA's members have a generally positive attitude towards the work we are doing and find it of value. There were no major surprises in the results. Program Directors find budget issues to be the most challenging. While this is of great concern to AUPHA, it is unclear how we can help support Program Directors in dealing with these issues. We welcome your input! Faculty find workload to be the greatest challenge. Hopefully the resources on the AUPHA Network are proving of value in helping to alleviate some of that burden.

Generally speaking you find AUPHA's publications of value, though there is clear room for improvement in terms of building content of value and improving ease of navigation in the website and Network. We are glad to see that our surveys are so well utilized.

More than 95% of respondents rated the quality of the AUPHA staff as good or better, with about 80% being Very Good or better. The Board fared less well, and it is clear that we need to do more to communicate to you what the Board's role is, how it operates, and its decisions.

The most interesting data to me is in the final slide where we ask what we are currently not doing that you would like us to do. Because this data was collected after the strategic planning work was underway, we didn't have this to inform our decisions. However, we will incorporate your responses into future discussions of new programming. Program Benchmarking is definitely already on our to do list, but items such as developing program assessment tools, developing case studies, and providing more curriculum development resources will be the topics of future Board discussion.

I hope that this information provides you with a sense of how AUPHA is doing in the opinion of our members and what we intend to do with the results of the survey. In addition to acting on some of the items you've asked for, we will continue to work on improving those areas where you've noted we could use it!

Again, if you'd like more detailed information on the survey results, please don't hesitate to contact me.
