AUPHA Announces Impactful Improvements to HAMPCAS System

By Stephanie Williams posted 04-09-2014 10:02

Each year, AUPHA solicits feedback from current and prospective HAMPCAS programs regarding the HAMPCAS application, admissions, and directory portals. All suggestions are brought to the HAMPCAS Advisory Council who is tasked with prioritizing the proposals in order of importance based on their overall impact on the service and current users. AUPHA is eager to announce that the next two HAMPCAS cycles will bring many new and impactful changes to the membership.

2013-14 / Cycle 4 Enhancements

Beginning in the fall of 2014, all applications will include a summary sheet, highlighting key aspects of the application such as personal information, designations, GRE scores, GPA, and institutions attended. Programs currently reviewing both HAMPCAS and SOPHAS applications will note a seamless transition between the two systems. Additionally, due to technical requirements, HAMPCAS has always required a deadline for each designation. However, in the coming cycle, programs will have the option to submit a true rolling deadline, and will not be required to submit an actual date. Once the cohort is full, programs may simply contact AUPHA to close their designation for the cycle.

WebAdMIT also is hard at work developing and testing an Automatic Data Export (API) feature for programs who wish to automatically export data from WebAdMIT into their program’s Student Information System. They also plan to implement a feature allowing email notifications within the platform to faculty reviewers when they are assigned applicants. Finally, by the end of 2014, WebAdMIT will offer an option to blind application panels from reviewers, allowing users to be selective in the application components they allow reviewers to see. For example, users will have the option to ask a reviewer to score an applicant’s essay without granting access to view verbal GRE scores or GPA information, encouraging unbiased review of materials.

2014-15 / Cycle 5 Enhancements

Over the past several years, AUPHA’s centralized application service partner, Liaison International, has conducted numerous case studies with students to better understand the applicant perspective. The much-anticipated CAS 3.0 has resulted, and a select number of centralized application services in the health professions have launched using this upgraded platform. AUPHA is pleased to have the opportunity to transition to the new platform in the 2014-15 cycle, as it offers many valuable features HAMPCAS programs will enjoy.

Specifically, CAS 3.0 focuses on an improved applicant experience with a modern look and feel, improved workflow tools, and enhanced mobile capabilities and alerts. Secondly, the platform will allow each program the ability to customize the application by adding school-specific questions directly into the application. HAMPCAS will also have the ability to enable a re-applicant feature, allowing students to carry forward their application materials to the next year, should they decide to delay or re-apply to programs. The platform will also feature a slew of WebAdMIT enhancements, including upgrades to the faculty review tools, list and export capabilities, and user management and rights features.

To learn more about what is in store for HAMPCAS, please join us for an information session over breakfast at the 2014 AUPHA Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. Faculty from all current HAMPCAS programs and interested programs are invited to attend. The session will be held on Wednesday, June 18th from 7:45am – 9:15am.
