FACULTY NEWS HMSS Chair Selected for AHRQ Healthcare Research Training Study Section Christopher Johnson, PhD, Professor and Chair, Dept. of Health Management and Systems Sciences, will serve as a member of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Healthcare Research Training (HCRT) Study Section. The 25-member panel meets quarterly to review applications requesting support for health services research training and career development; research infrastructure applications, demonstrations, and evaluations in topics spanning the entire spectrum of health services research; and review applications submitted through the National Research Service Awards.  ...

The Cornell University, Sloan Program in Health Administration has been tapped to be one of the anchor programs for a new and important initiative at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Sloan Program previously occupied two different academic spaces at Cornell including the Business School for 30 years, and the College of Human Ecology, Department of Policy Analysis and Management for 36 years. Due in large part to its record of training health care leaders, the Sloan Program is now an anchor for the new Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy. We are pleased to welcome two new faculty members the Department of Health Services Administration including Abdulaziz (Aziz) Ahmed, PhD, and Geoffrey Silvera, PhD. Dr. Ahmed, who previously worked as Assistant Professor at the Business Department at the University of Minnesota Crookston and received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the State University of New York at Binghamton. His research focuses on the applications of novel optimization and machine learning techniques in improving complex systems in healthcare. Dr. Silvera is a management scholar that is primarily focused on the influence of executive decision-makers on end-user outcomes. ...
