AUPHA is delighted to announce that Quint Studer will be the keynote speaker for the opening Breakfast Session cohosted by ACHE and AUPHA, the first part of AUPHA’s 2022 Academic and Practitioner Workshop.  The Workshop, scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, 7:00 – 8:00am Central time, will take place at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. Quint, a former AUPHA Board member and long-time friend of AUPHA, began his leadership journey as a teacher.  He then entered the healthcare industry and held leadership positions at Mercy Health System in Wisconsin and Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago.  Quint has spent decades working to make healthcare and education better. ...

The 2020-2023 Strategic Plan Update Town Hall was held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. AUPHA Board Chair Jason Turner, PhD, and AUPHA President and CEO, Dan Gentry, PhD, reviewed the progress that has been made and future initiatives. Former U.S. health secretary joins Miami Herbert Business School Alex Azar, who as the nation’s top health official supervised Operation Warp Speed to develop COVID-19 vaccines in record time, will undertake a teaching and policy research position at the University of Miami this September. Congratulations to Dr. Reid Oetjen who will be serving on the Executive Committee as the Secretary per the majority vote of the AUPHA Board of Directors. The appointment is effective immediately and lasts the balance of the traditional term. Congratulations also to Dr. Richard "Rich" Hirth, who was unanimously elected by the Board to fill a one-year vacancy on the Board. Rich will serve as a Board member until June 30, 2022, when his name will be put forth to the membership for a full vote as is required by AUPHA's bylaws.

The David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship aims to increase the number and quality of individuals trained in healthcare policy at the state and federal levels by providing financial support to deserving health policy students for furthering their education. AUPHA's 2022 Annual Meeting will be held next June 7-9 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The committee responsible for planning the meeting, the Annual Meeting Planning Committee, is looking for additional volunteers to serve on the Committee.  Knowledge of the city of Salt Lake City and its attractions is an asset, but anyone is welcome to join. The AMPC will begin meeting in early September to begin the planning process. Individuals interested in serving on the AMPC should contact Jason Walker, Manager of Meetings, at jwalker@aupha.org .

On Thursday, April 22nd, Samford University hosted its 2021 UPD Induction & Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was held in a hybrid format with approximately 25 in-person attendees and 25 online attendees. Dr. Daniel Gentry, President and CEO of AUPHA, was gracious enough to provide the keynote address virtually via Zoom. AUPHA’s 2021 Annual Meeting, held virtually again this year, was a resounding success. Special thanks go to the Annual Meeting Planning Committee (AMPC), chaired by Suzanne J. Wood, PhD, MS, FACHE, for putting together this event. Nearly 400 registrants attended the meeting over a three week period this past June to participate in over 26 educational sessions; 34 poster sessions; 4 keynote sessions, including a special pre-conference session; 17 track sessions, featuring a doctoral track, an undergraduate track; and a global track; and AUPHA sessions including the Graham Prize presentation, the Annual Business Meeting, the Awards Presentation session, and the ...
