  1. Describe the historical and legislative evolution of quality and performance assessment methods and approaches in health care.
  2. Explore governmental, non-profit, etc. organizations that have been instrumental in changing healthcare delivery.
  3. Examine complexities in defining “quality” by the various stakeholders.
  4. Identify the barriers to quality.
  5. Describe the evolution from quality assurance/bad apple to process focused evidenced based process improvement.
  6. Discuss the current issues and future trends associated with quality in the health care environment.
  7. Articulate the quality mandate in health care.
  8. Define the common terminology related to quality and process improvement.
  9. Evaluate opportunities and challenges to the implementation of quality assessment programs.
  10. Recognize a business case for quality and performance improvement initiatives.
