Preparing students to enter healthcare administration is a daunting task. While foundational or core knowledge is important, program curricula must be current and relevant. Additionally, it’s important for graduates to understand the importance of applying what they’ve learned in a dynamic integrative fashion. With these concurrent issues, many programs have sought to redesign their curricula.
Walsh redesigned its MBA-Healthcare Management as if no program existed - starting from the ground-up. Instead of tweaking courses or replicating other programs, a new model was developed - starting with student learning outcomes. From these outcomes, a systematic process unfolded, resulting in a new curriculum. The process engaged key stakeholders while also keeping an eye on accreditation. In the end, this new model can be applied to start-up or existing programs.
