Bio

Lydia Middleton is a consultant providing leadership, management, and assessment services to the academic and association communities. In this capacity she serves the Field Experience Director for the MHA@GW Program. In addition she is an Executive in Residence and Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships for St. Louis University’s College of Public Health & Social Justice and recently completed a contract as the Executive Director of the David A. Winston Health Policy Fellowship. She has also worked with Walden University/Laureate Education, Sacred Heart University, ModusEurope and the Alliance for Health Reform.

In 2013 Lydia left the Association of University Programs in Health Administration where she had served as the association’s President and CEO since July 2004. Prior to becoming its CEO, Lydia was AUPHA’s Vice President and COO from 1999 – 2004, having joined AUPHA in 1996 as its Director of Development. From 2001 until 2004, she also served as Vice President for Accreditation Operations of the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration Education.

Lydia was named by Modern Healthcare Magazine to the list of the 100 most powerful people in healthcare in 2004. She is the Past-President of the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions and Past-Chair of the Small Staff Association Committee of the American Society of Association Executives.

Prior to joining AUPHA, Lydia was a development professional with the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross. In that role she worked with local chapters to develop fundraising capacity, trained Boards in non-profit governance, and supported fundraising efforts during major disasters. She has also worked with the Academy for Educational Development in Washington where she supported international development projects in Latin America and Africa.

She earned her bachelors degree in international relations and Spanish from the University of Virginia, and her MBA from Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix. She became a Certified Association Executive through ASAE in 2002.
