National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives 2021 Leadership Summit

AUPHA is pleased to have been a sponsor of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives (NALHE’s) 2021 Leadership Summit, held in Denver, Colorado on September 22 – 23. AUPHA’s President and CEO, Dan Gentry, attended the Summit along with new AUPHA Board member, Monica Vargas-Mahar, who also serves as the President and Chair of NALHE.

Ms. Vargas-Mahar, FACHE, MHA, is the Market Chief Executive Officer for the Carondelet Health Network in the Southern Region of Arizona. She is the former Market Chief Operating Officer, The Hospitals of Providence and former Chief Executive Officer, East Campus in El Paso, Texas.

Monica is Board Chair of the United Way of Greater El Paso. She is a board member of the Child Advocacy Centers of Texas, the Council on Policy Development for Texas Hospital Association, the UTEP Development Board, the Trinity Residency Advisory Council, The National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, and the Institute for Healthy Living Executive Council. In 2012 Monica was named a Modern Healthcare “Up & Comer” by Modern Healthcare Magazine.

Monica earned her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.
