In October, AUPHA recognized eleven undergraduate health management programs, including the first program outside of North America, for successfully meeting the established criteria for AUPHA certification. To obtain this recognition, these programs completed a year-long peer review process that examines their curricula, faculty, educational outcomes, and more.

This year marks the first cycle in which recertifying AUPHA programs can receive a maximum seven-year term for certification. The maximum period was previously six years. In addition, programs that are certifying for the first time can receive a maximum four-year certification period (previously three). Recertifying programs in minimal compliance can also receive a four-year recertification (previously three).

Last year, AUPHA’s Board of Directors approved a measure that requires certified undergraduate programs to complete the AUPHA annual program survey. As a result of this resolution and additional changes to simplify the survey, the response rate for the 2021 survey reached an all-time high, with just over 60% of the Full and Associate membership submitting data. For more information on the results of that survey, please review AUPHA’s 2021-2022 Annual Report.

Throughout the fall, AUPHA’s Undergraduate Program Committee has engaged in a process to review and revise the criteria used during the certification process. Members had the opportunity to provide input during an October Town Hall and through a subsequent survey. The Undergraduate Committee Co-chairs will present proposed revisions to the Board for approval in January. Accepted changes will first take effect during the 2023-2024 certification cycle, when programs undergoing review may opt into the new criteria. All programs going through the review process during the 2024-2025 cycle will be held to the revised criteria.
