Bio

Sherril Gelmon, DrPH, is Professor of Health Systems Management & Policy at the Oregon Health and Science University and Portland State University School of Public Health. She teaches health management and policy in the Masters of Public Health and Masters of Public Administration programs, as well as doctoral students in Health Systems and Policy. Dr. Gelmon’s primary health-related research interests are in applications of continuous improvement in health services delivery and higher education, including study of health workforce development and applications of organizational performance improvement. She has conducted research for projects sponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, the Northwest Health Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the US Department of Education, the US Health Resources and Services Administration, and the Pew Health Professions Commission. She has served as an Examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program, and was a Senior Consultant with Community-Campus Partnerships for Health. From 1988-1994, Dr. Gelmon was Executive Director of the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA) and Director of Academic Affairs for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). Her prior position was Coordinator of the Planning Directorate for the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Gelmon is an alumna of the Pew Health Policy Program, and holds a doctorate in health policy from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan, a master's degree in health administration from the University of Toronto, and undergraduate degrees in physiotherapy from the Universities of Toronto and Saskatchewan. She received the 2017 Gary L. Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership from AUPHA.
