Bio

Steven Berkshire currently serves as Professor and Director of the Doctor of Health Administration program and Director of the Health Administration Division of the School of Health Sciences at Central Michigan University, Mt Pleasant, Michigan. The Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) is an online program that offers a traditional research oriented degree in a non-traditional format. Students represent senior health care professionals in all fields. Prior to Central Michigan he served as Dean for Graduate Programs in the School for Professional Studies (SPS) at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. The Graduate Programs division of SPS represented over 6,000 students in seven programs including Masters of Business Administration (MBA), Masters of Science in Management (MSM), Master’s of Science in Computer Information Technology (MSCIT), Masters of Science in International Management (MSIM), Masters of Science in Software and Information Systems, Masters of Nonprofit Management (MNM), Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC), and Masters of Arts (MA). Approximately half of the students participate in the online degree versions. Prior to Regis University, Dr. Berkshire was the Associate Dean for Adult Programs at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. Adult Programs included the Degree Completion Program (DCP) and its three majors, the Rural Alaska Native Adult (RANA) online program, corporate education, and the Masters of Arts Program, a self-directed interdisciplinary program. Steve has also taught at the University of LaVerne Alaska Center, University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Emmanuel College in Boston. Prior to coming to academia, Dr. Berkshire was a healthcare executive for more than twenty-five years including assignments in hospital administration, government affairs and lobbying, advocacy organizations, medical school administration, and managing hospital associations. He also is the principle in his own management and human resources consulting firm, Steve Berkshire Associates which provides leadership and management consulting, training, and human resource expertise to both investor owned and nonprofit entities. Steve earned his doctoral degree from Boston University in human resource education and organizational behavior, his Master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA) from Indiana University, and his BA degree in political science from the University of Colorado. He attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks prior to transferring to Colorado and participated in the MPA program at Boise State University in Idaho. Dr. Berkshire holds certifications as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Steve is active in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), Academy of Management, and other professional and civic organizations. He served as the ACHE Regent for the State of Alaska and was selected as the Member of the Year for the Anchorage chapter of SHRM. While acting as the advisor
