LTC (Retired) Lee W. Bewley, Ph.D. hails from a seven-generation family farm in Big Spring, Kentucky. He earned a United States Army commission in 1991, graduating from the Virginia Military Institute with degrees in Economics and Business. During his twenty-three year career in the military, he served as an Aide-de-Camp, Operations Officer, Executive Officer, Commander, Healthcare Administrator, Graduate Program Director, and Associate Dean. He completed a combat tour in Iraq serving as the Deputy Commander for Administration for the 47th Combat Support Hospital in support of Operation New Dawn. Dr. Bewley graduated from the Army-Baylor University MHA Program in 1999 earning Upsilon Phi Delta honors. In 2005, he graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a doctorate in Administration-Health Services (Strategy) with the distinction of being the Health Administration Graduate Student of the Year in 2005. Dr. Bewley is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and served three years as a Fellow in the Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Dr. Bewley is a 2009 alumnus of the Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives and was awarded The Army Surgeon General’s 9A identifier as a subject matter expert for healthcare management. Dr. Bewley was recognized as the recipient of the 2011 ACHE Federal Executive Service Award. He has served on the Army-Baylor University MHA\MBA faculty since 2005 earning recognition as the program’s Educator of the Year (2007), Distinguished Faculty Service Award (2008, 2010), and Associate Professor. He has held adjunct faculty appointments at Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Walden University. Dr. Bewley has published and presented academic contributions to the national and international fields of healthcare management on topics including leadership development, health administration, and strategic management. He retired from the United States Army in 2014 and was awarded the Legion of Merit. Dr. Bewley served as a faculty member for the Webster University Walker School of Business in St. Louis from 2014 - 2015. He joined the University of Louisville faculty in 2016 to serve as the first Program Director of the competency-based education bachelor's degree program in Healthcare Leadership. Dr. Bewley is currently the Director of Healthcare Management programs. He is the former President (2020 - 2022) of the Kentucky Chapter of ACHE. Dr. Bewley is the proud father of Christopher, Ashley, Brittany, and Alexander and husband of Stacy Crawford Bewley, Ph.D.
