Bio

I have over thirty years of experience working in industry as an engineer and business leader, the last eight years as a healthcare leader in the healthcare industry. While working in the healthcare industry, I was the Director of Performance Improvement for a large multi-specialty healthcare organization in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In this role, my team solved healthcare problems using Lean Six Sigma methodologies. I am a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and was trained in the Six Sigma methodologies while employed as an engineer at the General Electric Co.

I have over 16 years of teaching experience in traditional and online learning environments. My teaching experience also includes training as a Teaching Fellow in the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). While at UPMC, I co-taught courses in biostatistics.

My research interests focus broadly on population health, social determinants of health, and health disparities among marginalized populations. I am especially interested in the LGBTQ+ population, specifically focused on aging matters for this group, such as social isolation and vulnerability for aging LGBTQ+ people due to lack of family support; mental and physical health disparities due to lack of competent, inclusive health care; and end-of-life planning. I have research work published in several journals, including the Journal of American College Health and the Journal of Health Administration Education.

I’m a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Michigan Chapter and volunteer my time at the Affirmations LGBTQ+ community center in Ferndale, Michigan.
