Bio

Monica C. Vargas-Mahar, FACHE, MHA, is the Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence East Campus in El Paso, Texas. In this role she provides strategic and operational leadership for the East campus and numerous outpatient locations.

Vargas-Mahar has over 20 years of experience in the field of healthcare administration. She most recently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Sierra Campus and prior to that Chief Operating Officer for the Memorial Campus and Providence Children’s Hospital. During her tenure she has led teams to achieve an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Comprehensive Stroke Certification and advance trauma level status for emergency room designation, all while improving the patient experience.

She is active in her community and across the state serving as Chair for The National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives, a board member of the Texas Hospital Association and Texas Lyceum, past Chair of Greater El Paso United Way, board member of El Paso Community College Foundation and board member of Trinity University Healthcare Administration program. In 2012 Vargas-Mahar was named a Modern Healthcare "Up & Comer" by Modern Healthcare Magazine.

Additionally, Vargas-Mahar earned her master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California.
